Dudley has got his work nick out for him with this asignment. Henry is a tough case. But along the method of trying to announce the Bishop of the joys of life(not to mention all the hungry people the money could feed),Dudley, played by Cary Grant touches the lives of all those around him.Most of the women are simply in dread of his prescence(I would be too!),an aging history scholar(played impeccably by Monty Woolley) finds a renewed zest for life and even a cynical cab driver is reformed by the mere prescence of Dudley. But can Dudley obtain through to Henry in time to restore his astounding marriage to Julia? ….Can even an Angel resist the charms of Loretta Young? You’ll be smiling all the blueprint through this touching, classic Christmas tale finding out.
The supporting cast are legends in their contain rights…As I mentioned Monty Woolley catch touched by this angel as does James Gleason, Gladys Cooper and Elsa Lanchester.It is directed by Henry Coster.
The DVD, although not as prsiteen as some other films of this era(”Casablana”, “It’s A Unbelievable Life”),presented a nice report of this 56 year worn film. I idea the Shadowy and White images were animated and sure. Not quite as colorful as the others, but an appetizing belief none the less. The sound does need to be turned up quite a bit more than usual, but the dialouge always distinguishable and the graceful music added greatly to the narrative. The DVD gives the choice of “Chace Stereo” or the novel mono.I viewed it in the ‘Chace’, and my DVD decoded it in Digital 1.0) .There is an origianl theatrical trailer which is actually fun to notice. And..if you contemplate the film transfer is not the greatest, compare it to this trailer….what a contrast.It may be viewed in French and Spanish,and also has subtitles in those languages as well…but no subtitles or captions in English for those that might need them..this classic should be made for all to be pleased! For this reason alone, I am going with 4 stars(instead of 5) for the package.

This genlte film, based on Robert Nathan’s aesthetic fable, has the warmth of a cup of hot cider by the fireplace during a icy December day. There is something smooth and magical about it, like the hush of the world when it snows. Cary Grant and Loretta Young are a joy to ogle together, their easy chemistry as welcome as popcorn balls and candy canes.
Directed by Henry Koster, with some nice photography from Gregg Toland, the screenplay by Robert E. Sherwood and Leonardo Bercovici captures perfectly the sentimental fantasy feel of all Robert Nathan’s beautiful work. Cary Grant convinced producer Samuel Goldwyn to let him characterize the role of Dudley rather than the bishop, and after seeing this film, it would be difficult to imagine it any other arrangement.
Cary Grant always made everything gaze easy, but honest how considerable work went into that illusion is exemplified by this film. Before shooting began, Grant could not ice skate, play the harp, or thunder any French. By the time “The Bishop’s Wife” was finished shooting, he could do all three. It was truly an accomplishment of attractive preportions. The film itself was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Narrate, and received another nomination for Best Director.
Henry Brogham (David Niven) is a newly appointed Episcopalian bishop trying to earn funds for a spacious cathedral he wants to accomplish. He is selling out minute by minute to the demands of Mrs. Hamilton (Gladys Cooper), who helped salvage him his appointment and has the money he needs to invent his dream near right. But he has forgotten about his wife’s happiness in his quest to earn the massive church, and when he prays for direction from God, he gets more than he bargained for.
Cary Grant is the Angel, Dudley, who’s been sent to encourage out. Cars close for him and he knows the name of everyone he meets before they lisp him. Dudley is level-headed and charming, and very comely. He has an easy plot about him that makes everyone cheerful. Henry’s maid, Matilda (Elsa Lanchester), is taken with him and he has a gentle achieve on everyone he comes in contact with. Henry is not as pleased about Dudley, however, since one of those people is his neglected wife, Julia (Loretta Young) .
Young looks fair framed by Gregg Toland’s soft focus photography, and is pleasant as the sweet woman who misses the time Henry spent with she and their daughter, Debby (Karolyn Grimes), before he obtained his appointment. Dudley and Julia commence to savor the tiny and unbelievable things a couple in care for should portion together, while Henry continues to fret over the cathedral. Henry has forgotten that he prayed for guidance, not a sizable church.
It is snowing all through this film, and there are many sweet moments between Dudley and Julia. Unprejudiced the simple pleasure of a hump down the street and having lunch at a familiar situation are given serve to Julia, as she is made to feel appreciated again. I have watched this movie since I was 2, and I am now 12, and let me deny you that after 10 years, you never earn tired of it. I have the Masterpiece copy on this page, and it is very, very former out, so I cannot wait for Disney to re-release this classic on Disney VHS and DVD in 2007, so I can catch it and technically glean my hands on it!

The legend is familiar. A magnificent girl is abused by her stepmother and stepsisters and forced to work as their slave. When a ball is given for all the eligible maidens in the kingdom, Cinderella dreams of going too, only to have her hopes dashed at the last shrimp. With a gift of magic, she is able to go, but only until the stroke of midnight.
The memoir is so well known, if fact, that any record about an underdog coming from tedious and winning is called a Cinderella tale. Disney’s job here was to originate the record consuming for 75 minutes. The solution here was creating the animals. Mice Jaq and Gus and their constant struggle against the execrable cat Lucifer is silly and tying this sub-plot to the ultimate outcome is shining. The other standout character is the stepmother who is frighteningly base with no spruce powers.

As with any Disney movie, this one also has titanic songs. Arguably the best known is “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo.” Lawful slack it is “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes.” My well-liked, however, is the often overlooked esteem song “So This is Like.”
While not the best release in the Platinum series, it detached stacks up well. The movie has been restored, and it looks tremendous to me. I’m not a nitpicker, but I can’t catch any problems with the tubby frame report, the fresh aspect ratio. There is an enhanced 5.1 home theater mix, which doesn’t seem quite as impressive as some other releases. It seems more like the sound coming equally from all speakers. Of course, given the age of the film, there probably isn’t noteworthy more they could do. For purists, there is an unique soundtrack on the disc as well.
The extras in this location seem to be split between squawk for kids and adults, with the kids winning. Disc one includes a current version of “A Dream is a Wish” with the stars of several Disney Channel series. It also has several “Cinderella stories” in sports moments, a strange feature to me. Disc two includes several features about living like a princess.
Also on disc two are the bonus features adult fans of this movie will want to peer. There are two “deleted scenes,” which are really abandoned songs with the storyboards created for them. In edition there are more abandoned songs with no storyboards on here. It’s aesthetic exciting watching how various ideas went from one gain to another before finally making it into the movie. Other extras include a thirty-eight dinky documentary about the creation of the note, including achieved interviews with the animators gradual the point to. We are also treated to an overview of how the movie progressed over the years it was in development, a tribute to the “Nine Former Men,” Disney’s “Laugh-O-Gram” version of the account from 1922, and radio promotion from the time. I was thrilled to glimpse trailers from the movie’s multiple releases here. Unfortunately, there is no commentary in watch.
This Platinum DVD release means that all of Disney’s spirited movies have been effect on DVD at some point in the last few years. While the Platinum series isn’t quite as nice for adult fans as they worn to be, this is smooth a release that fans of the movie will want to retract up.

I have all of the “Pretender” collection…and like the previous 3, season 4 was/is fair as captivating. If you don’t believe it, you should…especially if you’re a fan of the demonstrate. My only regret, is that there won’t be more…unless I’m inaccurate, this was the final season. Too terrible all the really ample shows are cast aside.

I know that many will disagree with me, but there are several episodes in this 5th season that I wicked among my favorites. I am not one of those NE snobs that thinks everything went downhill after Season 2. I mediate the writing got stronger and funnier and the characters were given background and depth.
While “The Gargantuan Feast” from Season 4 is my all-time current episode, “Una Volta in L’Inverno” (Walt’s light visor addiction), “Three Doctors” (Joel gets glacier dropsy), “A River Doesn’t Urge Through It” (Maurice snookered in a land deal), Adam shooting a crossbow at Italina black-ops fireworks operators, the introduction of Cal the Violinist, and Holling trying to low-bid Eric and Ron’s wedding accomplish this season truly special. I know that at this point of its yarn arc some will say that Northern Exposure had jumped the shark and was a cariacature of its feeble glory…duly celebrated. But I really enjoyed the portrayals of my familiar characters in situations that clearly the writers had to stretch a runt to dream up. These later episodes lacked the emotional and quick-witted depth of the earlier stuff, but I found seasons 4,5, and yes, even 6, the most challenging of the series.

Now that DVDs are plot down in stamp, I’ve ended up with literally thousands–I mediate. I have a tendency to resist the earlier releases, the ones that are obviously “cheapies” with no special features–I know that better editions are unprejudiced around the bend for most films! But I recently had to invent an exception for “Poltergeist”. Now I had originally seen this film in a theater on its release. I have always considered it one of the best in its genre. I’ve seen it a couple of times since, but probably not at all in the last ten years (and for the record–all the sequels were bad) .

What amazed me was that I collected understanding it was a terrific movie! Now, some people will assume a couple of the effects are cheesy–and for today’s standards, maybe they are. But they are so well integrated into the film that I don’t contemplate the unusual viewer will mind. And I own films are historical documents–I abhor that George Lucas, for example, has corrupted his films with constant CGI updates. It’s as sacrilegious as colorization was!
“Poltergeist” succeeds as a gigantic film due, in astronomical fragment, to it’s unrelenting suspense–but, in equal measure, it relies on us to care about the family interested. I consider the movie endures because it has heart and characters to actually root for. Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams are astronomical (and believable) as the parents affected. Their appreciate for each other and their family, and their willingness to sacrifice anything for the safety of their kids is well presented and acted. Williams, in particular, has never been better. At first, she is your typical suburban Mom–but as outlandish things inaugurate happening, you behold her confusion, her delight, her awe, her dismay, her desperation and her daring side. It’s a very nice underrated performance. And Beatrice Strait and Zelda Rubenstein both give richer, more fully realized performances than I remembered.

Who’d have thought–all these years later–that it’s the characters of “Poltergeist” that have famous it in my mind?
It’s time now! We need a Deluxe Version DVD. It’s hard to bear 2007 will stamp 25 years–that seems a fitting opportunity to honor a film that has stood the test of time. I’ll be first in line to upgrade. KGHarris, 9/06.
This is one of my current movies, and I’ve reviewed the earlier DVD impart elsewhere. My review this time is purely for the recent DVD reissue which is one of the biggest disappointments I’ve approach across. Let’s commence with this “25th Anniversary.” The only mention of the anniversary is a haphazardly placed sticker on the outer sleeve. The fact that it was unbiased slapped onto the box gives the buyer an concept of how worthy plan went into this current DVD.
Then there are the extras. A documentary about true-life hauntings. Okay, that’s not dreadful. But wait - where’s the new trailer for the film that was on the earlier DVD? It’s been removed. Did the trailer salvage sucked into Carol Anne’s closet and is being held captive by the Beast? What purpose did removing the trailer help?
This is a pointless release. My advice is to hang onto the earlier release which is anamorphic AND has the trailer and skip this one; there will be another, hopefully better, release someday. Warner Brothers should be ashamed.

I loved that this DVD was so inexpensive but had on it an hour and a half of some of the finest work ever assign to the saturday morning cartoon line-up of the 80’s. All five of the defining episodes of the series are here, as it is for the most piece the pilot for the series. The four green heroes, along with their master Splinter (aka Hamato Yoshi) and April O’Neil, go up against Shredder and his brain pal Krang and try to build the world from “Dimension X”. HOWEVER, as a DVD area it’s none more impressive than featuring the basics to the five episodes (no seperate language/audio tracks, no subtitles, no trailers, no leisurely the scenes footage), and the only bonus being four “never before seen episodes” (as they very well may be, as I can’t remember them for the life of me), which are some of the lesser ones. Tranquil, any fan from the used days, or anyone thinking of checking it out for the first time (young and customary alike) .
This expose became one of the most well-liked and new provocative shows of all time ever since it’s debut in 1987, it actually all began as an independent comical book in 1984 that became an instant cult approved. Then in 1987, it was sold as an challenging series that started a mini-series first thus it was a success and a pop culture phemeneon spawning merchandise, three movies with a fourth one on the blueprint, a musical tour, and more for it ran from 1987 to 1995. The Chronicle deals with four human-like anthropomorphic mutated turtles who were once ordinary turtles turned to what they are thanks to chemicals especially their once human master named Splinter who are trained in the art of ninjetsu as they relieve a magnificent news reporter named April O’Neil to fight crime and battle the forces of the execrable Shredder especially munch down pizza.
This DVD has the first five episodes which were actually allotment of a mini-series that lead to the successful explain. The first fraction “Turtle Tracks” introduces our heroes Leonardo, Donetello, Ralphel and party-loving Michaelangelo especially April, Splinter and The Shredder plus their origins next there’s “Enter The Shredder” where the turtles track down the Shredder plus the dreaded brain-like creature named Krang from Dimension X and two dim-witted mutants Bebop and Rocksteady. “A Thing About Rats” has a disturbed scientist named Baxter Stockman who impartial made pefect robotic mouse-traps becomes a pawn in Shredder’s game to slay Splinter, “Hot-Rodding Teenagers from Dimension X” is exactally what the episode’s title says as punks from another dimension honest wanting to have fun here on Earth find in peril with the warlords and the Ninja Turtles to protect them and finally “Shredded and Splintered” has Krang with a current body as it rampages through the city and only the turtles can end it.

The recount is decent and so is the sound and the only extra is 4 never-before-seen episodes shown in the U.S. as an extra. So if you mild treasure Ninja Turtles, then go out and fetch this.
